San Antonio, TX: Tex-Mex + Puffy Tacos + Chicken Fried Steak

When is San Antonio it’s Tex-Mex, Tex-Mex, and more Tex-Mex. There are plenty of great places, yes, but Mi Tierra has a pretty special charm and atmosphere that is hard to beat. Huge portions with all the staple Mexican sides like refried beans, Mexican rice and guacamole. Live music, great margaritas and a huge list of other great drinks, definitely add it to the your list for a great dinner.

Now you’re strolling around Market Square and need something quick. Well let me tell you, you definitely need one of these puffy tacos, or “Gordita”. Not going to be a full meal but this “inside out” taco is definitely great for walking around or enjoying a Michelada (Mexican beer with tomato juice, freshly squeezed lime juice, and Worcestershire sauce, teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, or hot sauce) and listening to the live music in the Square. And for anyone who loves Mexican street corn, there is a stand called CornHub that is doing it right.

Beware of Lulu’s Bakery because the chicken fried steak or the 3 pound Cinnamon Roll is not for the faint hearted and you should probably forget to log it on MyFitnessPal. If you love chicken fried steak, this needs to be on list. Huge portions with delicious sides and in case the pictured food looks too small, there are two sizes bigger. And for those who are crazy enough, the 3 pound Cinnamon Roll is a monster size and will take some real commitment to finish.
