Austin, TX: BBQ + Buffalo Chicken Sandwich + Pecan Pie

So you love BBQ, me too. Now if you are visiting Austin, there a few essential stops for great BBQ. But you read this you may think, “Every google search has told me Franklin’s BBQ is the place to go” and it may be. But for anyone that doesn’t want to be up at the crack of dawn to stand in line for 3-6 hours and still possibly not get any food, there are plenty of other places that offer better than great quality as well.

Great BBQ food mixed with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly experience, sounds like Rudy’s is your place to go. Try any and every item they have on their menu before you order and they even give you recommendations to help you make your decision and you will not be disappointed. The Cutter’s Choice and Extra Moist brisket will melt in your mouth and the Spicy Chopped mix up all of their meats was out of bounds. I’m not usually a potato salad fan either but even that was delicious here. Don’t forget to wash it all down with a Big Red.

Now you find yourself at Franklin’s and you decide you can’t handle the wait, what do you do? Well just a short walk down the road is Micklethwait Craft Meats which has a great outdoor atmosphere with competitive quality as well. The campfire beans and jalapeno grits were amazing just on their own so don’t count the sides out.

So you’re not a huge fan of BBQ or you just have had too much, Kerbey Lane Cafe should be on your list as well as this Buffalo Chicken sandwich: it’s everything you’d want and more. A perfectly crispy piece of fried chicken, cajun hot sauce stacked with cole slaw and mozzarella cheese, avocado and jalapeno remoulade. On the spicy side, but it will blow any other buffalo chicken sandwich you’ve had out of the water, guaranteed.

Address: Kerbey Lane Cafe, 3704 Kerbey Ln, Austin, TX 78731

No matter how you pronounce it, Pecan Pie is a treasured dessert in all of Texas and after this slice at Wimberley Pie Co., I understand why. Everything you’d want to taste in your favorite pie was in this slice, even down to a great crust. Worth a try for anyone driving out to check out Jacob’s Well. Don’t forget to check to see if you can swim at the well so you don’t drive all the way there and then find out you aren’t allowed.

Address: Wimberley Pie Co., 13619 Ranch Rd 12, Wimberley, TX 78676
